Executive Director – Ray Tizzard
Raymond Tizzard leads an active life as a performer, educator, arts activist, and administrator. As a trumpet player, Ray was a member of the National Ballet Orchestra from 1978 until 2010. He was a member of the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra from 1980 until 2009. With these two major performing arts organizations, he toured internationally and took part in countless significant performances spanning over three decades. Ray was a member of the Esprit Orchestra for over 20 years.
Ray’s passion for ensemble playing is clearly evident as the driving force behind the formation of the Hannaford Street Silver Band. Under his artistic directorship, many of the core values still cherished by the HSSB began. Ray facilitated over 60 HSSB commissions and 12 HSSB recordings.
Ray is a founding member of True North Brass, and taught at Western, Queens and York Universities. Ray is Past Chair of the Interprovincial Music Camp Board of Directors and still sits on its Board of Directors.
In addition to his current role as Executive Director of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, he is the Orchestra Personnel Manager and Music Administrator for the National Ballet of Canada. Ray is a Life Member of the Toronto Musicians’ Association and was recently honoured by his Alma Mater, Western University, as his name was added to the Don Wright Faculty of Music, Wall of Fame to honour outstanding Alumni.
