Gabriel started playing music at the age of 6, moving to trumpet at 13. Early attempts at composing led him to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Ottawa, where he studied with Steven Gellman, and then a Master’s in composition at the University of Western Ontario, with Dr. Peter-Paul Koprowski, d Dr. David Myska. He is keenly interested in wind and brass band music, and his works have been performed in Canada, the United States and England.
