Horn Concerto No. 1 – Marcus Venables

$85.00

Description

Richard Strauss wrote HORN CONCERTO NO. 1 (Op. 11) in E-flat major in 1882-3.  He wrote a version with piano accompaniment that was premiered by one of Franz Strauss’s students, Bruno Hoyer, as a soloist in 1883, and an orchestral version that was first performed by horn soloist Gustav Leinhos in 1885.  This concerto has become the most frequently performed horn concerto written in the 19thcentury and was first recorded by Dennis Brain in 1947.

The Hannaford Street Silver Band was honoured to have Fergus McWilliam of the Berlin Philharmonic as a guest soloist on February 21st, 2016, and Marcus Venables was gracious enough to do this brass band transcription for Fergus for this performance.
